Weekly Recap:
The No. 19 Wake Forest men's soccer team finished the past week with a 1-1 record. The Deacs dropped a 1-0 decision at home to College of Charleston on Tuesday and defeated UNC Greensboro 2-1 on Saturday night in Greensboro.
Wake Forest is now 3-3-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Freshman Luca Gimenez led the Demon Deacons on the week with three points. Gimenez gave Wake Forest the lead with a penalty kick goal in the first half against UNC Greensboro and then assisted on Andy Lubahn's game winner in the second half. Gimenez is second on the Demon Deacons with five points, scoring two goals and an assist in his freshman year.
Lubahn scored his third goal of the season against the Spartans. The sophomore from Erie, Pa., scored late in the second half to lift Wake Forest to a win at UNC Greensboro. Lubahn leads Wake Forest with three goals and six points on the season.
Akira Fitzgerald finished the week with a 1-1-0 record in goal. Fitzgerald made 10 saves on the week, including a career-high tying eight stops in the win at UNCG. Fitzgerald now has a 1.25 goals against average on the season, after allowing a goal in each game last week.
The Demon Deacons opened the week with a 1-0 loss at home to College of Charleston. The Cougars scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute when Francis Twohig found the back of the net. Wake Forest attempted seven shots in the match, but was unable to find the back of the net.
Wake Forest rebounded with a 2-1 win at UNC Greensboro on Saturday. The Deacs took the lead in the 40th minute on a penalty kick goal by Gimenez. UNCG evened the game with a penalty kick goal in the 63rd minute, converted by Will Mack. The Demon Deacons took the lead for good in the 81st minute on Lubahn's third goal of the season with the assist credited to Gimenez.
Wake Forest has a pair of games at home this week. The Deacs host South Carolina on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before returning to conference play on Friday against Virginia Tech. Kickoff against the Hokies is slated for 7 p.m.
