
Football Game Notes - Wake Forest vs. Georgia Tech

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest is looking to bounce back from consecutive road losses as the Demon Deacons return home to host defending ACC champion Georgia Tech on Saturday evening at BB&T Field. The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU. The game is also available on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Radio Network.
The Demon Deacons (2-2, 1-1 ACC) are coming off a 31-0 shutout at Florida State last Saturday in Tallahassee. The setback was the second straight for Wake Forest following a 68-24 loss at Stanford on Sept. 18.
Junior defensive end Kyle Wilber led the Wake Forest defense with a career-high 11 tackles against FSU, including three for loss and two sacks. Wilber, who entered the game leading the nation in tackles for loss, also forced a fumble that was recovered by the Deacs.
Senior safety Alex Frye tallied a career-high 11 tackles to go along with one pass breakup against the Seminoles.
Georgia Tech (2-2, 1-1 ACC) is coming off a 45-28 loss to NC State last Saturday in Atlanta. The Yellow Jackets trailed 31-14 late in the third quarter but rallied with two touchdowns in 50 seconds to pull within three, 31-28, in the fourth. However, NC State registered two more touchdowns of its own to put the game out of reach.
Quickie Notes
- Former Wake Forest head coach and current Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Al Groh returns to BB&T Field for the first time since Nov. 8, 2008, when he was the head coach of Virginia. Groh coached the Demon Deacons from 1981 to 1986 and had a record of 26-40.
- Saturday's game features two of the nation's top-15 rushing offenses. Georgia Tech has the No. 2-ranked rushing attack, averaging 320.5 yards per contest. The Deacons are ranked No. 15 in the country with an average of 238.5 yards per game.
Next Up...
The Demon Deacons remain at home next Saturday when they host Navy at 6:30 pm. Navy has won the last two regular season meetings between the two schools. Wake will then travel to Virginia Tech on Oct. 16, for the first matchup with the Hokies since 2006.
