CHICAGO - Former Wake Forest men's soccer standout Michael Parkhurst was among 20 players called up to the full U.S. Men's National Team, as selected by head coach Bob Bradley.
Parkhurst and the U.S. will be preparing for a pair of international friendlies during the month of October. The U.S. takes on Poland at Soldier Field in Chicago on Saturday, October 9, at 8 p.m. (ET) in a match that will be shown live on Fox Soccer Channel and Galavision. The second friendly is set for October 12 at 8 p.m. (ET) against Colombia at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The match against Colombia will be televised by ESPN2 and Galavision.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to gather many of our players based in Europe and continue to build on the foundation we established during the last four years," Bradley told USSoccer.com. "We believe we have a strong nucleus of talented players, many of whom we are going to challenge to assume greater leadership roles during the next four-year cycle. We certainly have ideas on how we want to move forward, and these games will be the start of that process."
Parkhurst has eight caps for the U.S. National Team. A native of Providence, R.I., Parkhurst most recently played for the U.S. at the 2009 Gold Cup. He was also a member of the team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Parkhurst is currently a member of FC Nordsjaelland in the Danish Superliga. He has started seven games this season.
Parkhurst was a member of the Wake Forest men's soccer team from 2002-04. A starter in all 62 games he played, Parkhurst was twice named all-South Region and was a first-team All-America choice by Soccer America in 2004. He was also named a second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2003 and 2004.
