Football Game Notes - Wake Forest vs. Maryland

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest is seeking its sixth win of the season to become bowl eligible as the Demon Deacons welcome in the Maryland Terrapins for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by Fox Sports and can also be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
The Deacons are coming off a heartbreaking 31-28 loss at Clemson last weekend. Wake Forest led 28-14 in the third quarter, but the Tigers fought back with two straight touchdowns and then kicked the game-winning 43-yard field goal as time expired.
Brandon Pendergrass rushed 20 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Deacons at Clemson. The 134 yards were a career-high for the Royal Palm Beach, Fla., native.
Michael Campanaro also had a good day, returning a punt 50 yards for a score and catching a career-high nine passes for 71 yards.
QB Tanner Price completed 24 of 37 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Cameron Ford caught a three-yard scoring pass from Price in the first quarter.
The Deacon defense forced three Tiger turnovers. Josh Bush and Zach Thompson both had interceptions. For Bush, it was his sixth pick of the season, as the senior safety currently ranks second in the ACC and fourth nationally.
Outside linebacker Kyle Wilber recorded a career-high 13 tackles on the afternoon, while Bush and Cyhl Quarles had eight stops apiece.
Quickie Notes
- This will be the 22nd meeting all-time between Wake Forest and Maryland at BB&T Field. The Deacs have won just five of those matchups, including the last two in 2007 and 2009.
- Wake Forest junior wide receiver Chris Givens is 37 receiving yards away from tying Ricky Proehl's single-season record of 1,053 which he set during the 1989 season.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will close the regular season next Saturday by hosting SEC-foe Vanderbilt. The Deacons have won the last three meetings in the series.
