WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Aubrey Bledsoe and Katie Stengel were named to the NSCAA's All-Southeast Region First Team, while Caralee Keppler was honored with a second team selection, as announced today by the organization.
A sophomore forward, Stengel is making a repeat appearance on the All-Region first team after making the squad as a freshman in 2010. Bledsoe and Keppler both earned All-Region honors for the first time.
Stengel, the 2011 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, continued her full-on assault on the Wake Forest record books in 2011, scoring 19 goals and 46 points, with both marks topping the previous school records that she had set as a freshman in 2010. She again finished as the ACC's scoring leader, becoming the first player since North Carolina's Mia Hamm in 1992 and 1993 to lead the conference in goal-scoring in back-to-back seasons.
The Melbourne, Fla. native's prolific season has brought her numerous honors. She is one of 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, the highest award in college soccer. Stengel was also named to the All-ACC First Team and ACC All-Tournament Team for the second year in a row in addition to taking home Capital One Academic All-District First Team honors.
In her sophomore year, Bledsoe cemented her reputation as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation. She played every minute in net for the Demon Deacons, keeping a school-record 14 shutouts and boasting a 0.74 goals against average that ranked as the second-lowest mark in Wake Forest history. She was the lone goalkeeper on the All-ACC First Team - a de facto nod as the conference's goalkeeper of the year - and was also named to the ACC All-Tournament Team. Like Stengel, Bledsoe excelled off the pitch as well, earning a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District Second Team.
In 2011, Keppler became known as one of the ACC's premier defenders after leading a Wake Forest back line that ranked as one of the best in the conference. A junior from Rockville Centre, N.Y., Keppler started all but one game at center back for the Demon Deacons, helping them keep 14 shutouts and finish the year with a 0.74 goals against average that ranked as the second-lowest in the ACC.
With the contributions of Stengel, Bledsoe and Keppler, the Demon Deacons posted a school-record 18-4-4 record in 2011 and reached the NCAA College Cup for the first time.
