| Duke Game Notes
Wake Forest returns home to host nationally ranked Duke on Friday evening. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game can been seen on the Regional Sports Network and can be heard on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
The Deacons are coming off their first road win of the season last Sunday with a 60-55 victory over Virginia Tech. Sophomore Lakevia Boykin scored all of her team-high 13 points in the second half while the Deacons shot a season-best 53 percent in the final 20 minutes.
Boykin has now led the team in scoring five times this season and is third on the team overall at 9.3 points per game. She has also started a team-best 24 games and tops the squad at 27.5 minutes per contest.
Junior Secily Ray tied Boykin with 13 points on the afternoon and also led the team with nine rebounds. Ray is averaging seven rebounds per game in her last three games and is just 24 rebounds shy of 600 for her career. She is looking to become just the ninth Demon Deacon to grab 600 career rebounds.
Senior Brittany Waters and sophomore Sandra Garcia each chipped-in with 11 points in the win over the Hokies. Waters also grabbed seven rebounds while Garcia was an efficient 4-of-5 from the floor. The duo is team's top-two scorers on the season as both players are averaging over 10 points per game.
Duke opened the year by winning 20-straight games and rose to as high at No. 3 in both the AP and Coaches' polls. But since then, the Blue Devils have dropped two out of their last three games. The first loss came to No. 2 Connecticut on Jan. 31, and after a victory over Miami, the Blue Devils fell to cross-town rival North Carolina 62-60 on Feb. 7.
ACC Preseason Player of the Year Jasmine Thomas has lived-up to the billing so far. She tops the team in points per game (14.6), steals (59), assists (77) and has made over 35 percent of her three-point attempts (35-of-98).
This will 70th meeting all-time between Wake Forest and Duke. The Deacons' win in the ACC Tournament on March 5, 1993 evened the series at 18-18 but since then, Duke has won 33-straight games and holds a 51-18 edge in the series.
