WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest University and the Atlantic Coast Conference today announced the ACC football schedule for the 2011 season. The Deacons have seven home games scheduled, starting with the first ACC game of the year against NC State on Sept. 10. The Deacons will play nine teams that went to bowl games following the 2010 season including six bowl champions. Wake Forest's opponents combined to go 85-70 during the 2010 season.

Wake Forest will open the 2011 campaign at Syracuse on Sept. 3. Syracuse went 8-5 last year and defeated Kansas State in the inaugural Pinstripe Bowl played at Yankee Stadium. Wake won the first meeting between the two teams 20-10 to open the 2006 season.

Wake Forest plays the first of its seven home games on Sept. 10 against NC State. The Wolfpack went 9-5 last year and defeated West Virginia in the Champs Sports Bowl.

The Demon Deacons will host Football Championship Subdivision member Gardner-Webb on Sept. 17 at BB&T Field. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

After an open date on Sept. 24, the Deacons begin a stretch of three straight games against 2010 bowl teams. Wake will travel to Boston College on Oct. 1 before returning home to face Florida State on Oct. 8 and Virginia Tech on Oct. 15. The Hokies defeated the Seminoles 44-33 in last year's ACC Championship game.

Wake Forest will close out October with in-state road games. The Deacons visit Duke on Oct. 22 and North Carolina on Oct. 29. Wake will be visiting Kenan Stadium for the first time since 2006.

The Deacons will play three of their four November games at BB&T Field. Wake hosts Notre Dame on Nov. 5. Following a trip to Clemson on Nov. 12, the Deacons will entertain Maryland on Nov. 19 and Vanderbilt on Nov. 26. This will be the fourth game in an eight-game series that has the Deacons and Commodores ending the regular season with each other. Wake Forest won season-ending games at Vanderbilt in 2007 and 2010 and at BB&T Field in 2008. The series continues through the 2015 season.

"We're excited about this year's football schedule which includes nine bowl teams from last season," said head coach Jim Grobe. "The ACC schedule is outstanding and we face a very demanding non-conference slate. Our fans will be treated to some of the best teams in the country this fall at BB&T field."

Game times have not yet been determined and will be released at a later date.
