The Demon Deacons will begin their final road trip of the season when it travels to Coral Gables, Fla., on Monday to tangle with Miami. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the BankUnited Center.
Wake comes into the contest having dropped a pair of games to No. 5/7 Duke and No. 15/17 Florida State. The Deacons had their chances down the stretch against the Seminoles last Thursday but ultimately fell 82-79.
Sophomore Sandra Garcia led four Demon Deacons in double-figures against Florida State with 17 points. She was scoreless in the opening 20 minutes but came out of the locker room aggressive and went 7-of-11 from the floor and 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. Since being inserted back into the starting lineup on Jan. 13 against Virginia Tech, Garcia is averaging over 12 points and four rebounds per game.
Freshman point guard Chelsea Douglas continued her strong freshman campaign with 13 points and four assists against the `Noles. Douglas was also the Deacs' leading scoring against Duke, scoring 11 points. The Rock Hill, SC, native has reached double-figures in six of the last nine games and has made 16 three-pointers over that span.
Sophomore Lakevia Boykin and senior Brittany Waters were the other two Deacons in double-figures against FSU as Boykin finished with 12 points and Waters notched 11. Waters now has 1,170 career points and is just 43 points away from tying Alex Tchangoue for 10th all-time in school history.
Miami comes into Monday night's game in a three-way tie atop the ACC at 9-2. The Hurricanes started the year by winning 18 of their first 19 games and currently stand at 23-3 on the season. The duo of Riquna Williams and Shenise Johnson have carried the `Canes as Williams is 11th in the country in scoring at 21.7 ppg and Johnson is close behind at 19.7 ppg.
This will be the 10th all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Miami. The Deacons hold at 6-3 edge in the series and have won the last four meetings, including a 66-65 overtime victory in the opening round of last year's ACC Tournament.
