WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volunteer assistant men's soccer coach Travis Myernick has accepted the top assistant coaching position at Rider University.
Myernick served as the volunteer assistant coach at Wake for the past two seasons, helping lead the Demon Deacons to a 17-4-3 record and their fourth-consecutive College Cup appearance in 2009.
"I would like to thank everyone at Wake Forest, especially (head coach) Jay Vidovich and the rest of the coaching staff, for allowing me to become a member of the Wake Forest soccer family," said Myernick. "I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to be a part of such a first-class program, and I hope that they enjoy continued success in the future."
"It is definitely a loss for us, but we are excited that Travis was able to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity," said Vidovich. "We wish him the best of luck in the future as he takes the next step in his coaching career."
Myernick returns to New Jersey, where he coached with the New Jersey Olympic Development Program before coming to Wake Forest. Before joining the staff at New Jersey ODP, Myernick spent 2008 coaching youth soccer in New Jersey with AKKA Soccer, Bob Smith Soccer Academy and the Glenn "Mooch" Myernick Soccer Foundation. The foundation takes inner-city kids from Trenton, N.J., and uses soccer as a way to improve their quality of life.
Myernick is the son of the late Glenn "Mooch" Myernick, who was the head coach for the Colorado Rapids of the MLS and an assistant coach for the U.S. Men's National Team.
