Deacons Complete Second Spring Practice

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest went through its second spring practice on Saturday and head coach Jim Grobe was pleased with the results.
While the squad is still in just helmets, the enthusiasm is abundant.
"I was really pleased with how enthusiastic the players were today," said Grobe. "I'm not sure if it's because they were embarrassed with last season's performance, but they are off to a good start this spring."
The Deacons will stay in helmets for Tuesday's practice and possibly for Thursday's session as well. Wake Forest could scrimmage as early as Saturday, March 26, when the team practices at BB&T Field.
Injuries will keep a number of Deacons sidelined or limited in their participation this spring. TE Jonathan Garcia will miss spring practice while rehabbing a torn ACL that he suffered in practice at the end of the 2010 season. LB Justin Jackson, who suffered a torn ACL in the season opener in 2010, will be only be able to participate in drill work during the spring.
Four players will miss the spring after undergoing off season shoulder surgery: OG Gabe Irby, DL Frank Souza, TE Neil Basford and RB Tyler Jackson. All are expected to be healed by the start of preseason drills in August.
S Duran Lowe will miss all of spring following wrist surgery while OL Dylan Heartsill and DL John Gallagher are not expected to participate while dealing with back issues. Walk-on freshman kicker Tim Bishop will also be sidelined for the spring with a broken foot.
