GREENSBORO, NC - Wake Forest senior Natalie Sheary has been named ACC Women's Golf Co-Player of the Month for the month of February as announced by the ACC office on Thursday. Sheary shares the honor with Maria Salinas of Florida State.
Sheary bookended her career at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, which was played on Feb. 14-16, by finishing second at 4-over par. She won the event as a freshman in 2008 and then tied for seventh last year as a junior. The Northrop Grumman usually attracts one of the toughest fields year-in and year-out.
After opening the tournament with a 4-over 76, Sheary rebounded with a season-low 5-under 67 in round two to grab a share of the 36-hole lead. In rainy and windy conditions in the final round, the West Hartford, Conn., carded a solid round of 2-over 74 for a runner-up finish.
This is the first time Sheary has been named ACC Player of the Month, which began in 2009. She is the third Demon Deacon to earn the award as Nannette Hill was honored in 2009 and Cheyenne Woods claimed the award last season. Sheary was also named Golf World Player of the Week after winning the Northrop Grumman in 2008.
Sheary is currently second on the team with a 72.9 scoring average and seven of her 15 tournament rounds have been played at par or better.
The Demon Deacons will return to action on March 11, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Invitational.
