WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman Katie Stengel will join the U.S. U-20 National Team for the fourth time this year when she travels to the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. for a week of training with the squad from April 23-30.
Stengel has been invited to all three U-20 team training camps this year. Last month she traveled with the team to the Ten Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain and made two starts in friendly matches. The squad is early in its preparations for the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup which will be held in Uzbekistan.
The freshman forward is coming off of one of the best seasons in Wake Forest history, leading the Atlantic Coast Conference with 16 goals and 37 points, and breaking the school records in both categories in the process. She received numerous honors and awards, including ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC First Team, TopDrawerSoccer National Rookie of the Year and NSCAA Second-Team All-America.
