WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest assistant men's soccer coach Bo Oshoniyi has accepted the same position at Penn State. Oshoniyi coached the Demon Deacons during the 2009 and 2010 seasons, working primarily with the team's goalkeepers.
"I want to congratulate Bo and thank him and his family for their two years of loyal service to the Wake Forest men's soccer program," said head coach Jay Vidovich. "He has been a tremendous role model and has played an important part in maintaining our program's goals of development, integrity, and family. We wish Bo all the best as he embarks on the next stage of his career."
"I want thank Ron Wellman, Barbara Walker, Jay Vidovich and the rest of staff at Wake Forest for giving me a tremendous opportunity to grow and learn as a coach over the past two years," said Oshoniyi. "I couldn't have asked for a better group of players to work with, and I'm truly excited for the future of Wake Forest soccer."
Under Oshoniyi's tutelage, goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald earned All-ACC honors in 2010 after making 81 saves and recording four shutouts.
In 2009, the Demon Deacon goalkeepers under Oshoniyi compiled a 0.77 goals against average posted 10 clean sheets. Wake Forest ranked third in the ACC in goals against average and was 21st nationally. The Deacs won the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title and advanced to the College Cup.
Prior to coming to Wake Forest, Oshoniyi enjoyed a 12-year professional career, highlighted by stints with the Columbus Crew (1996) and the Kansas City Wizard (2000-06).
A national search for his replacement will begin immediately.
