CHICAGO - Wake Forest women's soccer player Katie Stengel has been called up to the U.S. Under-20 National Team for its training camp that will run from June 4-12 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. During the camp, the U-20 squad will play two friendly matches against Japan's U-20 team as it continues its preparations for the 2012 U-20 World Cup which will be held in Uzbekistan.
Stengel has been a regular with the U-20s this year, participating in every one of the team's monthly camps. In March, the Melbourne, Fla. native traveled with the team to La Manga, Spain to participate in the Ten Nations Tournament.
The rising sophomore forward is coming off of one of the best seasons in Wake Forest history in 2010, when she led all Atlantic Coast Conference players with 16 goals and 37 points, breaking the Wake Forest single-season records in both categories in the process. She received numerous honors and awards, including ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC First Team, TopDrawerSoccer National Rookie of the Year and NSCAA Second-Team All-America
