WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sophomore forward Katie Stengel was one of 42 student-athletes named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2011 season.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer with the recipient selected at the end of the season by head coaches of Division I programs who are members of the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA).
Stengel became the first-ever Demon Deacon to be named a semifinalist for the prestigious award last season, after scoring 16 goals and 37 points as a freshman, with both marks setting new Wake Forest school records. She led the ACC in scoring and was the highest-scoring freshman in all of Division I.
The Melbourne, Fla. native is one of nine ACC players to make this year's watch list, the most of any conference. She is also one of only six sophomores on the list.
Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
Stengel and the rest of the Demon Deacons will open the 2011 regular season with road games at Auburn on Aug. 19 and at UCF on Aug. 21.
