WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore forward Katie Stengel has been named to Soccer America's Preseason All-America Team, as announced today by the publication. Stengel is the first-ever Demon Deacon to earn Preseason All-America honors
Of the 25 players named to the team, Stengel is one of only two sophomores. The award was the latest preseason honor for Stengel, who yesterday was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
After leading the ACC in scoring in 2010 with 16 goals, a new Wake Forest school record, and helping lead Wake Forest to its first ACC championship, Stengel was named to the 2010 NSCAA All-America second team. She became the first freshman in school history to be named an All-American and the first Deacon to be named to an All-America first or second team. She was also named a Freshman All-American by Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer and was honored as Top Drawer Soccer's National Rookie of the Year
Stengel and the rest of the Demon Deacons will open the 2011 regular season this weekend with road games at Auburn on Aug. 19 and at UCF on Aug. 21.
