WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest football team took the practice field Tuesday morning and continued to go through a variety of drills in full pads as it prepares for the 2011 season.
The passing game continued to find success today, after the Deacon quarterbacks combined to complete 31-of-51 passes for 399 yards in yesterday's scrimmage.
"The whole offense has been stepping up from last year and spring ball," said redshirt senior wide receiver Danny Dembry. "We threw for a lot of yards in the scrimmage yesterday, so I think that overall, we're progressing. We all have a few bumps and bruises, but once we get everyone back to 100 percent, we'll be good."
Dembry was one of the stars of yesterday's scrimmage, catching six passes for 112 and continued his strong performance at the Doc Martin Practice Complex today, making several nice receptions.
"Yesterday was a great day for Tanner (Price) and me," said Dembry. "We have a good strong connection and it makes it easy to go out there and catch balls from him."
The temperate conditions this morning allowed for a spirited practice, especially in the trenches where the offensive and defensive lines squared off in some competitive battles.
The Demon Deacons also spent part of Tuesday's practice working on special teams, with a focus on punt protection.
The Deacs will return to the field on Wednesday for two sessions, practicing from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. Wake's next scrimmage will come on Friday Aug. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at BB&T Field.
