Men's Golf Finishes Tenth At Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic

ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team carded a final round 298 and finished tenth at the season-opening Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic on Sunday.
Individually, senior All-American Lee Bedford finished tied for 21st at 2-over par after a final round 74.
Junior Charlie Harrison was one of three Demon Deacons to finish tied for 42nd. Harrison made a total of five birdies on Sunday as he carded a 74 which was his best round of the weekend.
Senior Justin Bryant finished tied with Harrison at 9-over after a final round 75. Sophomore Thomas Birdsey opened the tournament with a team-low 72 but was 9-over the final two rounds to complete the Demon Deacon trio tied for 42nd.
Junior Evan Beck was just one shot behind that group as he rebounded from an opening round 79 to post scores of 72-75 and finish 10-over par and tied for 47th.
Auburn shot a final round 282 to hold on for a five-shot victory over Tennessee. Georgia Tech got off to a tremendous start and was 17-under for the day through nine holes. But the Jackets dropped three shots coming in and would finish third at 7-under par.
Alabama's Justin Thomas fired a final round 7-under 65 to take medalist honors at 10-under par. He finished four shots ahead Benjamin Weilguni of Chattanooga.
The Deacons will return to action on Sept. 26-27 at the VCU Shootout in Manakin-Sabot, Va.
