WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Rachel Nuzzolese was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week after scoring three goals to help the seventh-ranked Demon Deacons stay perfect in ACC play with victories over NC State and Miami.
With the two victories last week, Wake Forest improved to 10-1-0, the best start in school history. The Demon Deacons have won their first three ACC matches for only the second time in the history of the program and sit tied with Boston College and Duke atop the conference standings.
Nuzzolese scored the Deacons' first goal against the Wolfpack, helping them dig out of a 1-0 hole, and then found the back of the net twice against the Hurricanes, guiding the Deacs to their biggest win over the Canes in seven years. The sophomore forward also dished out an assist against Miami, giving her a five-point game - a new career-best.
The Upper Brookville, N.Y. native ranks second on the team with six goals and 13 points this season, bouncing back strong from a knee injury that forced her to miss the second half of the 2010 season. She has totaled 15 goals in 20 career games as a Demon Deacon.
Nuzzolese and the rest of the Demon Deacons will host two key ACC matches this week, facing Virginia Tech on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Virginia on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both contests will take place at Spry Stadium.
