WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 17 Wake Forest will host NC State at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium on Friday night in the Fifth Annual Genna Wiley Memorial Match in order to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research.
Genna Wiley is the late wife of former men's soccer trainer Steve Wiley. After a long battle with breast cancer, Genna passed away three days after Wake Forest won the 2007 NCAA National Championship.
The Wake Forest players will wear pink Nike jerseys during the game that fans will have a chance to bid on in a silent auction during the game. The auction will take place on the south concourse.
Also on the concourse will be a bake sale that is being held by the Wake Forest student managers. All proceeds from the jersey auction and the bake sale will go to the local Triad affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.
Through the first four years of the event, the Wake Forest men's soccer team has raised more than $19,500 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Fans are encouraged to show their support and wear pink to the match. All fans who wear pink will receive free admission into the stadium. In addition, the first 500 fans to show up will receive a pink rally towel to wave during the game.
Last season, the Demon Deacons pulled off an exciting 1-0 victory in double overtime over Virginia Tech on a goal by Jared Watts.
