WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior Rachel Nuzzolese and senior Kristen Meier both earned national player of the week honors for their performances during Wake Forest's wins over NC State and North Carolina last week.
Meier was named an NCAA Top Performer of the Week after she dished out three assists in the two games, two against the Wolfpack and one against the Tar Heels, and also drew the penalty kick that led to the game-winning goal against NC State.
Nuzzolese made Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week, scoring two goals against the Wolfpack, including the game-winner on a penalty kick, to key the Deacons to a 4-2 win. She then added an assist on Annick McBryar's game-winning goal against the 10th-ranked Tar Heels, serving a perfect corner kick that McBryar put in from point-blank range.
With the two wins, the Demon Deacons can finish no lower than a tie for second-place in the ACC and with a win or tie against Virginia Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium would secure sole possession of second place and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ACC Championship.
The Deacons are already assured of hosting the opening round of the ACC tournament and will play their quarterfinal game on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. at Spry Stadium against an opponent still to be determined.
