Deacons Fall to Vanderbilt in Season Finale

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest came up short in its final game of the regular season, falling 55-21 to Vanderbilt on Saturday at BB&T Field.
The Demon Deacons dropped to 5-7, while Vanderbilt moved to 8-4.
Deandre Martin was one of the bright spots for the Deacons on the day, carrying 24 times for 72 yards and a touchdown in addition to catching two passes for 34 yards.
Tommy Bohanon notched a rushing touchdown for the Deacons and Chibuikem Okoro got the final score for Wake Forest on a fumble return for a touchdown.
Okoro was also Wake Forest's leading tackler with nine stops
Both teams put together long scoring drives to start the game. Vanderbilt went 85 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead, and Wake Forest answered right back with a 16-play 71-yard drive, capped off by a Tommy Bohanon one-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7-7. Bohanon's touchdown came on his first carry of the season, though he does have five receiving touchdowns this year from his H-back position.
Vanderbilt took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to carry a 28-7 lead into halftime. The Commodores carried their momentum into the second half, blocking a punt for a touchdown on Wake Forest's opening drive.
Martin's rushing touchdown came on a one-yard direct snap at the 9:09 mark of the third quarter. Okoro scored his first-career touchdown in the fourth quarter, scooping up a fumble that was forced by Tylor Harris and returning it four yards into the end zone.
