Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
Opening statement...
"This was a really solid team effort, where we had a lot of contributions from a lot of guys in a very positive way. Four guys in double digits, Travis right there almost with a double-double, Codi with eight points; it was just a solid team effort. We're working hard to get better and we're pleased with this effort. We can't be satisfied and we'll continue to work harder to improve. We've got a big ball game Saturday night. We're really proud of our effort tonight."
On Chase Fischer and Aaron Rountree's breakout nights...
"Chase is still a young player in his own right as a sophomore, and all of these young men are working really hard. If you take a young man like Aaron, who wasn't getting a lot of minutes early on this season, he's been coming in on a daily basis to watch film and take some extra shots with the coaching staff. He's constantly working; any kind of volunteer lift that we have, he's there. It's not by accident that he's playing very well right now."
On the defensive press and its effects on the game...
"Our press has been very effective. We use it to exhaust clock, to harass them, to get them out of a rhythm. Sometimes they have to start initiating their offense with 22 seconds on the shot clock and it takes them out of their rhythm. We've worked hard to make sure that we protect the alleys in that press so that they can't score on us."
Wake Forest Freshman Forward Aaron Rountree III
On Travis McKie and C.J. Harris in the second half...
"They turned it up. Coach (Bzdelik) told them they had to and we all know they're going to step up when it's time for them to be clutch. That's what they do; they're juniors and seniors, All-ACC type players."
On his growth as a player...
"Just trying to get better every day, personally and the team. I'm not really too high or too low, (I'm) right in the middle."
On the pressure he feels...
"I don't really feel any pressure. I just try and go out there and play as hard as I can, like tonight when it gets close. I know that Travis (McKie) and C.J. Harris will step up but I still have to keep playing hard myself. But it's no pressure to go out there and score 20 because it's not my game. Travis and C.J. are the scorers and everyone just takes shots when they are open."
High Point Head Coach Scott Cherry
Opening statement...
"I thought our guys fought really hard. I thought we gave it everything that we had. They hit a couple of timely threes. Cavanaugh hit one at the end of the shot clock and then Fischer hit a couple. I have to go back and look at the film. We came down and didn't capitalize on a couple of offensive possessions, and the game got away from us a little bit. John (Brown) played a heck of a game. He played really well and fought every single minute he was out there, and I thought the rest of the team gave everything they had. It's a tough place to come in and play. I haven't seen anyone come rolling in here except for Nebraska from the (Big Ten), come in here and beat these guys. They're an ACC caliber team, they are talented, but I feel really good about my basketball team. I feel really good about our kids and we are going to rebound and get back home and get ready to play after final exams."
On the tempo in the second half...
"We like to play fast. We are all right with that, we just had eighteen turnovers. We made some mistakes with the ball, and it cost us. We will learn from that and we will get better and go back to the practice floor and just continue to get better, but right now we need to focus on academics and focus on final exams that's what comes up now. We will get ready for Western Michigan next week. I still feel good about this team. I got good players and we are learning, we are young, so we will get better."
On the impact of the lack of balance in offensive points...
"We try to get everybody involved and do different things to get everybody involved, and I was trying to play off of the hot hand. John was playing well and taking advantage of things. It's one of those games where we didn't get as balanced scoring as we had been getting in other games. We've had four or five guys in double figures in other games. Unfortunately tonight we just didn't get those other guys. Take nothing away from Wake they played well. I thought our guys fought and gave ourselves a chance on the road. We just didn't capitalize in the last three or four minutes in the game and make some shots, make some plays, get some stops, and make them miss. It comes down to the last couple of minutes of the game three or four minutes and they made some shots, they made some plays, and you've got to give them credit."
