GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest football team placed five student-athletes on the 2011 All-ACC Academic Football Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday, February 15.
The five nominations were tied for the second-most in the ACC and included sophomore quarterback Tanner Price, senior offensive linemen Michael Hoag and Doug Weaver, as well as junior linebacker Riley Haynes and sophomore safety Duran Lowe.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. All 12 ACC schools were represented by at least one selection on the team, which has been selected every year since 1954.
It was the second nomination to the team for Hoag and Weaver, standout starters on the Deacon offensive line, who both earned their Wake Forest degrees in December.
One of just three starting quarterbacks to qualify for the All-ACC Academic Team, Price earned the honor for the first time in his Wake Forest career after completing his second year as a starter by throwing for 3,017 yards and 20 touchdowns and ranking fifth in the ACC in pass yards per game (232.1).
Also earning first time selections were reserve safety Duran Lowe, who made 33 tackles and played in all 13 games, and Riley Haynes who registered a career-high 52 tackles, six tackles for loss and a sack as a starting inside linebacker.
