Women's Hoops Falls 75-43 to No. 5 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - No. 5/6 Duke had four players in double-figures as the Blue Devils downed Wake Forest 75-43 Thursday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The win lifted Duke to 18-3 on the season and a perfect 9-0 in the conference. Wake Forest falls to 12-10 overall and 2-7 in the ACC.
Sophomore point guard Chelsea Douglas led the way for the Deacs with 11 points on 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Junior Lakevia Boykin also finished in double-figures with 10 points while senior Secily Ray pulled-down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with six points.
Haley Peters and Richa Jackson each recorded double-doubles for the Blue Devils as Peters had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Jackson finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Deacs were held to just 25 percent shooting on the night while Duke shot over 43 percent. The Blue Devils also held the edge on the glass 54-39 and committed 23 turnovers compared to 27 for Wake.
Duke took an early 9-7 in the in first four minutes and a jumper from the top of the lane by Peters would spark an 11-2, giving Duke a 20-11 lead at the second media timeout. Wake cut the lead to 22-14 but then went cold from the field. The Deacs didn't dent the scoreboard for almost six minutes, allowing Duke to run out to a 30-14 lead. Duke pushed the lead to 17 and would take a 36-19 edge into the break.
Thomas led the way for the Deacs at the break with five points and three rebounds. Wake shot just 25 percent in the opening half and committed 19 turnovers. Peters paced the hosts, who shot 47 percent, with 13 points and five rebounds.
A 7-0 Duke run early in the second half put the Devils in front by 23 points at 48-25. That essentially removed all doubt as the hosts steadily built on the lead the rest of the way. Duke lead 59-29 with 10 minutes to play and eventually took as much as a 35-point lead at 73-38 and would go on to a 75-43 victory.
Wake Forest returns to action this Sunday as it travels to face Boston College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Chestnut Hill. The Deacs downs BC 72-58 in the team's first meeting this season.
