WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest football team ran through its seventh spring practice on Thursday, March 29 at the Doc Martin Football Complex.
Head coach Jim Grobe and the Demon Deacons spent approximately two hours on a number of positional drills before some full team contact on another light-hitting day. The weather was perfectly clear and in the mid-70's, making for a comfortable practice climate.
Despite having a few players banged up, the Demon Deacons came out in full pads for the fourth straight practice.
"We've got two or three offensive linemen nursing injuries right now, whether it's shoulders or ankles or knees, whatever," said Grobe. "The problem is, if you gauge your practices for a handful of injured players, you've got 75 guys that are't getting what they need. We just decided to try to be careful with the guys who are injured."
Looking forward to the Deacs' second spring scrimmage, Grobe anticipates a bit more scheme and thoughtful football.
"Going forward, we're continuing to install offense and defense in each practice," said Grobe. "And so even though we hope we show some progress on Saturday, I think we'll have them thinking a little more. We went a couple days last week without installing anything and I think that's one of the reasons we played pretty fast [at last week's scrimmage]. Hopefully we'll get the same effort, energy and enthusiasm out of our guys this week, but we want to have them think a little more as we go further into spring."
Wake Forest hosts its second spring scrimmage on Saturday, March 31 at BB&T Field. The practice is open to the public beginning at 10:00 a.m. and will run through noon.
