WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior All-Americans Aubrey Bledsoe and Katie Stengel were named to the preseason watch list for the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, the highest individual award in college soccer.
Stengel, who has been a semifinalist for the award the past two seasons, was named the ACC's Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 after leading the conference with 19 goals and 46 points. The two-time All-American is currently with the U.S. Under-20 National Team in Japan where it is preparing to open the FIFA U-20 World Cup on Aug. 20 against Ghana.
Through her first two seasons at Wake Forest, Bledsoe has established herself as one of the most accomplished goalkeepers in school history. The Cincinnati, Ohio native earned All-America honors in 2011 after keeping a school-record 14 shutouts. She was the lone goalkeeper on the All-ACC first team - a de facto nod as the conference's goalkeeper of the year.
The Hermann Trophy candidates will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by November 29. Members, coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices, and the finalists will be announced December 6. The winners will be announced at the awards banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11.
Wake Forest, which will open the 2012 season on Friday against Richmond in Blacksburg, Va., returns 10 starters from last year's squad which advanced to the College Cup for the first time in school history. The Demon Deacons were ranked No. 3 in the preseason by the NSCAA.
