
John Varol Set For US Amateur

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. - Wake Forest rising-junior John Varol is set to compete this week in the US Amateur Championship at the famed Cherry Hills Country Club.
The 36-hole stroke play portion of the event begins on Monday and will be contested at Cherry Hills CC and nearby Common Ground Golf Course. After Tuesday, the low-64 players will advance to match play which will be used to determine a champion on Sunday.
Varol shot rounds of 71-74 at Colleton River on July 16 and 17 to qualify for his first US Amateur. This past season, Varol played in seven events for the Demon Deacons and finished with a scoring average of 76.5. He has had a solid summer thus far, finishing 8th at the Southeastern Amateur and tied for 10th at the Carolinas Amateur.
Varol will play Cherry Hills on Monday and Common Ground on Tuesday. He is set to start at 3:35 EST off the 10th tee on Monday afternoon. Follow USGA.org for live scoring throughout the entire event.
