WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team will get its first taste of fall competition on Tuesday when the Demon Deacons host Radford in an exhibition game at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium. Admission to the contest will be free for all fans.
The matchup with the Highlanders is one of two exhibition games for the Demon Deacons, as the team will travel to play Furman at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Wake Forest boasts an experienced squad in 2012, as the Deacs return every player who scored a point last season. Luca Gimenez is the leading returning goal scorer after finding the back of the net six times in 2011.
Andy Lubahn led the team with 14 points on four goals and six assists, while Teddy Mullin tied Lubahn for the team lead with six helpers. Sean Okoli and Ben Newnam also both reached the double-digit point mark with 11 and 10, respectively.
In addition to having all the offense return, Wake Forest also welcomes back Michael Lisch who started all 21 games in goal.
Last year, Wake Forest finished the season with an 8-8-5 overall record, including a 7-4-1 record at Spry Stadium. Radford enters the exhibition game after going 9-8-2 a season ago and a 3-7-0 record on the road.
The Highlanders lost two of their three top point scorers from last season, but they bring back Luis Grande who was second on the team with eight goals and 19 points. Ryan Taylor and Dane Wilson split time in goal a season ago and are both back for the 2012 season.
The 2012 regular season is slated to open up on Saturday, August 25, at 7 p.m. against Wofford at Spry Stadium.
