Wake Forest Completes Second Practice Of The Fall

WISNTON-SALEM, N.C. - For the second-straight night, the Wake Forest football team practiced under the lights at the Doc Martin Practice Complex while also dodging the rain.
The start of practice was delayed 15 minutes due to lightning in the area. Once the players finally got on the field, they enjoyed a light off and on rain throughout the nearly two hour practice. Wearing just helmets, the Deacons continued to work on fundamentals of all three facets of the game - offense, defense and special teams.
One of the areas where the Deacons enjoy a good bit of depth is at the linebacker position. Seniors Scott Betros, Riley Haynes and Joey Ehrmann, along with juniors Mike Olson, Justin Jackson and sophomore Zach Allen all saw significant playing time last season. That core, along with a good group of young guys should give defensive coordinator Brian Knorr a solid middle for his 3-4 defense.
Betros, who missed spring camp with an injury, is back at 100 percent this fall. He finished 2011 with a career-high 59 tackles which was tied for fifth on the team and first among the linebackers. Betros, Olson, Haynes and Jackson combined to make a total of 227 stops a year ago and will be relied upon heavily this season.
The Deacons will continue preseason practice again on Wednesday night beginning at 7:45 p.m. The players will don full shells for the first time.
