GAME OF THE WEEK: WOMEN'S SOCCER VS. CLEMSON
9/24/2012 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Sept. 24, 2012
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 13th-ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team's match against Clemson on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. at Spry Stadium has been named the Wake Forest Game of the Week. Fans in attendance can sign-in at the marketing table to be entered into a season-long drawing for great prizes, including a pair of men's basketball season tickets.
Wake Forest will head into the match at 8-3-1 (2-2-0 ACC) after knocking off No. 4 Boston College 2-0 last Thursday before suffering a 2-1 setback to Maryland. In the game against the Eagles, Katie Stengel scored both goals to set the Wake Forest all-time goals and points records. The junior All-American has totaled 38 goals and 90 points in her Wake Forest career.
Head coach Tony da Luz will be looking for his 200th win at Wake Forest on Sunday. Da Luz is trying to become only the 10th coach across all sports to win 200 games as a Wake Forest head coach, and the second, after field hockey coach Jennifer Averill, to do so in a women's sport.
Wake Forest has won its last five matches against Clemson, dating back to 2007, but trails the Tigers 7-12-3 in the overall series between the two teams.
Clemson enters this week at 5-4-2 (0-3-0 ACC). The Tigers came close to earning their first ACC point in four seasons last Sunday against Virginia, but ended up falling 1-0 to the Cavaliers on an 81st minute goal.
About the Wake Forest Game of the Week Program
Each week during the fall, one high-profile home event will be designated as the Game of the Week. At that game, fans should check in at the marketing table to be entered into a season-long raffle, giving them one entry for every Game of the Week that they attend. The more games you go to, the greater chance you have to win.
At the end of the fall season, a drawing will be held for a Grand Prize of two men's basketball season tickets and a Wake Forest prize pack. Other prizes include four tickets to a men's basketball ACC home game, four tickets to a men's basketball non-conference game and four women's basketball season passes.
