WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest junior safety A.J. Marshall has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Defensive Back of the Week for his play against Liberty on Sept. 1.
Marshall, a 6-0, 190-pound junior from Durham, NC (Southern HS), was instrumental in Wake Forest's 20-17 victory over Liberty. Marshall had six total tackles including two solos and four assists. He led the team with 1.5 tackles for loss and two pass break-ups. Marshall's biggest contribution was an interception and 39-yard return for a touchdown late in the third quarter that pulled the Deacons into a 14-14 tie with the Flames. The interception was the first of his career. It also marked the first Wake Forest interception return for a score since the season opener of 2010.
Wake Forest will host North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:00 p.m. at BB&T Field.
