WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's 34-10 win over Maryland on Oct. 19 has yielded a number of honors for the Demon Deacons.
Phil Steele has announced his mid-season awards and nose tackle Nikita Whitlock has been named a third team All-America as a defensive lineman. Whitlock, twice named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week, currently leads the nation with 13.5 tackles for loss. He has 45 tackles on the season including seven sacks. He is tied for fifth nationally in sacks.
Whitlock was also named to Phil Steele's Midseason All-ACC first team. He is joined on the first team by flanker Michael Campanaro and cornerback Kevin Johnson.
Campanaro on Monday was named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll. Campanaro caught 11 passes for 122 yards vs. the Terrapins and also completed two passes for 29 yards. The Hornung Award is given each year to the nation's most versatile player in college football.
Campanaro became just the third Football Bowl Subdivision player since 2000 to have two or more completions and eight or more receptions in the same game.
Quarterback Tanner Price was listed as an honorable mention selection for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Weekly Award. Price was responsible for three touchdowns against Maryland, as he threw for a score, rushed for a touchdown and also caught a scoring pass. Against the Terps, Price, a native of Austin, Texas, completed 26 of 36 passes for 231 yards.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose annual award goes to a Division I football player who is either a native of Texas or plays for a Division I school in Texas.
