WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest has earned the No. 14 seed in the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship and will host the winner of VCU and Navy on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
With being one of the 16 teams to earn a national seed, the Demon Deacons earn a First Round bye. VCU will host Navy in the First Round on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the right to play the Deacs in Winston-Salem on Sunday.
Wake Forest has now earned a spot in the NCAA Championship for the 11th time in the last 12 years and the 17th time in school history. The Demon Deacons, who earned four straight trips to the College Cup from 2006-09 and won the 2007 NCAA National Championship, are 20-13-3 all-time in the tournament.
The Deacs were one of six ACC teams to make the field and one of four conference teams to earn one of the 16 seeds. Notre Dame earned the three seed, Maryland earned the five seed and Virginia earned the eight seed. Clemson and North Carolina also made the field and will play a First Round game.
Wake Forest has already played VCU once this season, coming from behind to defeat the Rams 2-1 at home on September 24. Tolani Ibikunle and Sam Fink scored the goals for the Deacs. The Demon Deacons are 5-0-2 all-time against VCU, including a 3-0-2 record against the Rams at home.
On the other hand, Wake Forest and Navy have never met in men's soccer.
Notre Dame is a potential Third Round opponent, as the Fighting Irish will host the winner between Wisconsin and Milwaukee on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Three of the top four seeds went to the Pac-12, with UCLA earning the No. 1 overall seed, Washington earning the No. 2 seed and California earning the No.4 seed.
