Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
Opening Statement...
"We were a little slow getting out of the gate. A lot of missed layups and missed free throws. At times, we had poor defensive positioning but we battled through it. There were also a lot of good things that we did. We had 21 assists on 28 field goals with only seven turnovers. We were 9-for-18 from the three point arc and got to the free throw line 32 times. Our defense improved as the game went on. We had a really good second half in terms of our focus, energy, and focus on detail."
On the team's play in the first half...
"We had opportunities at the free throw line and also around the rim. One of the things we talked about at halftime is that you can't let the things you do on offense dictate your defensive energy. That's going to happen. No matter what you do, offense is a variable and sometimes it is not going to go in for you but you can't let it take away from your defensive energy and what you need to do."
On the play in the first five games...
"We should have won these first five games. If we are going to have any kind of a year we should have won these first five games, and we did. Our non-conference schedule is a fair, balanced schedule. We now step into one of the premier tournaments. All three games are all big-time games. It's now a steady climb up in the schedule. We are going to put in a few new things offensively and work on some things on defense to help us. Saturday morning we need to go to work and we need to grow offensively and defensively."
Senior Forward Travis McKie
On the win over The Citadel...
"We struggled offensively in the first half and it was a close game. In the second half we wanted to come out and (get) a great start and put the first half behind us. We made a run in the second half and we were able to sustain it."
On the adjustments made coming out of halftime...
"Make sure we stop them on the defensive end and get out and run. We did the best in transition. We struggled in the first half offensively and put it behind us."
On the balanced effort for Wake Forest...
"I think everybody put came tonight. All of us struggled offensively at times and shots weren't falling like they usually do. So all of us did something in a specific area for us to come out and win."
Graduate Student Guard Coron Williams
On defeating The Citadel...
"It was a great win to finish this five game home stretch. Guys defended; we started off slow in the first half and guys came out in the second half and picked it up. That translated into great offense."
On a strong second half...
"We picked up our energy. Our energy was low in the first half and guys weren't ready to play. We can't have that going into this Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament but we picked that up in the second half and guys looked good out there."
On making four three pointers...
"They went into that zone. I was finding gaps and guys were finding me. I was able to make some shots and going into this tournament, we'll see man-to-man so my shots are going to change. I'm going to be coming off a lot of screens. I'm going to have to find ways to create my own shot."
