Wake Forest will take on USC in the consolation bracket of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Friday afternoon at the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on AXS TV and can also be heard on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network.
Last Time Out
Wake Forest is coming off an 87-78 loss to No. 2-ranked Kansas on Thursday in the Battle 4 Atlantis. Codi Miller-McIntyre scored a career-high 26 points and helped push the Jayhawks to the brink, but the Deacons ultimately came up short in the final minute.
The Deacons trimmed a 14-point halftime deficit to four (46-42) early in the second half. Wake Forest also got to within five (79-74) after three straight buckets from Miller-McIntyre with just over a minute to play but could get no closer.
Miller-McIntyre's 26 points came on an impressive 10-of-16 shooting. He also dished out four assists without turning the ball.
Tyler Cavanaugh added 11 points in addition to pulling down a career-high eight rebounds to lead all players, while Madison Jones and Coron Williams chipped in 10 points apiece.
The difference in the game came at the free throw line where the Deacons went only 18-for-29 and the Jayhawks went 26-for-38.
Wake Forest Storylines
Codi Miller-McIntyre has scored 20+ points in all but one game this season. The only blemish was a nine-point, eight-assist performance against The Citadel on Nov. 21.
Coron Williams has made 16 3-pointers combined over the past four games. He is the first Deacon to accomplish the feat since Justin Gray made 17 over three games in 2005-06.
Series History
Wake Forest won the only previous meeting between the Deacons and the Trojans on the hardwood. Wake Forest picked up a 93-85 defeat of No. 14-ranked USC on Dec. 29, 1954, in the Dixie Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
The Deacons are 10-12 all-time against current Pac 12 members. Wake Forest's last game against the conference was an 84-56 setback to Arizona State on Nov. 25, 2011, at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will face either Tennessee or Xavier on Saturday in the final round of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
The Vols lead the series with the Deacons 6-2, but the teams have not met on the hardwood since the 1969-70 season when Tennessee picked up a 60-59 win. The series started in 1947-48, and Wake Forest earned wins in 1949-50 and 1959-60.
The series between rivals Wake Forest and Xavier is tied at two wins apiece after the Deacons earned a 66-59 defeat of the Musketeers at the Joel Coliseum last January. The teams will meet later in the 2013-14 season in Cincinnati for the fourth annual Skip Prosser Classic.
Following the Battle 4 Atlantis, the Deacons return home to host Tulane on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m.
