KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Four Wake Forest soccer players have earned All-South Region honors, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Tuesday.
Jared Watts and Sean Okoli both earned First Team All-South Region honors, while Jalen Robinson and Luca Gimenez were both named Second Team All-South Region.
For Watts, this marks the second straight year that he was named First Team All-South Region, while he was also named Third Team All-South Region as a sophomore in 2011. As a senior in 2013, he tied career-high marks with two goals and four assists, playing primarily as a holding midfielder or a central defender. He also became just the second Demon Deacon in school history to be named First Team All-ACC three times when he earned the award earlier in the year.
Okoli was named First Team All-South Region for the first time this season after leading the Demon Deacons in goals for the second straight year. The junior forward scored nine goals this year and 11 goals last year in 2012 en route to being named Second Team All-South Region. Okoli was also a First Team All-ACC selection this season.
Robinson has now been named Second Team All-South Region for the second straight season. The sophomore was a mainstay on the back line for Wake Forest all season, as he started 19 games. He also provided the Deacs with perhaps their most exciting goal of the season, scoring with just 57 seconds left on the clock to tie the game against then-No. 1 North Carolina 1-1 on September 28. That goal earned him ACC Player of the Week honors.
Gimenez's Second Team All-South Region nod is the first All-Region honor of his career. The Brazilian, who was a First Team All-ACC selection, was second on the team with eight goals and tied Okoli for the team lead with 21 points. His five assists were second on the team. He was named ACC Player of the Week earlier in the year after recording two goals and an assist for a five-point game in a win at Maryland on October 19.
With the four players earning All-Region honors, Wake Forest tied for the most players on any of the three teams and is the only school with four players on the first two teams.
