WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore forward Aaron Rountree III has been nominated for the Allstate Good Works Team, as announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday.
The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to the greater good of their communities through volunteerism and civic service.
In its second year, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams honor players at all levels of college basketball who represent the sport's finest in the areas of leadership and charitable achievements amongst their peers. The student-athletes nominated for this prestigious award embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back.
Rountree is one of seven players in the ACC nominated for the award. The final award winners, which will include five men's Division I players, will be announced in February.
Rountree is a member of Wake Forest's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has generously volunteered his time on campus and in the community.
This past August, Rountree volunteered with Hope & Hope Ministries, traveling to St. Vincent and the Grenadines on a mission trip. On the trip, Aaron helped clean up local parks and participated in basketball and soccer clinics with area youth.
Rountree serves on the "Eat With The Deacs" committee, which is a program that brings together Wake Forest student-athletes and local youth for mentorship opportunities each month. Aaron has also volunteered with service projects such as the Skip Prosser Literacy Program, Habitat for Humanity, Project Pumpkin, Hit the Bricks for cancer research, Bounce Out the Stigma Basketball Camp, a local diversity basketball clinic and Santa's Helpers.
While jump shots and rebounds earn recognition on the hardwood, the Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams® help tell the stories of good taking place off the court that often go unnoticed. It is those players who demonstrate the exceptional ability to balance academics with athletics while donating their limited free time to serving others who have been nominated by their respective colleges and universities for this prestigious honor.
From the 118 NABC nominees and 84 WBCA nominees, special voting panels will select two 10-member teams comprised of five student-athletes from the NCAA Division I level and five student-athletes from NCAA Divisions II, III and the NAIA. The final roster of 20 award recipients will be unveiled in February.
