WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest played its first home spring game and tied the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Professional Division 2-2 on Thursday night at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons have now tied their first two games of the spring, both of which have come against professional teams. Wake Forest also tied the Carolina Railhawks 2-2 on March 9.
Luca Gimenez and Michael Gamble provided the goals for Wake Forest, while Andy Lubahn and Collin Martin recorded the assists.
The Eagles went up 1-0 in the 15th minute, but Wake Forest was able to tie the game before the half at 1-1 in the 27th minute on Gimenez's goal. Lubahn was able to play the ball to Gimenez on the right side who buried it into the back of the net. Alec Ferrell played the first half in goal and made two saves.
The Demon Deacons then took their first lead of the game just eight minutes into the second half in the 53rd minute. Martin played a quick restart to Gamble from the top of the box and Gamble netted the go-ahead goal.
Charlotte then tied the game in the 63rd minute, and the game would remain tied at 2-2. Andrew Harris was in goal for Wake Forest in the second half and made one save.
Former Demon Deacons Ben Newnam and Nick Courtney both saw action for the Charlotte Eagles.
Wake Forest will play again on April 6 against its first collegiate competition of the spring. The Deacs will take on VCU at 7 p.m. at home at Spry Stadium.
