WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Katie Stengel has been called up to the U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team and will camp with the squad at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. from April 13-20.
The call-up is the latest step in Stengel's progression through the U.S. Youth National Team system. The junior forward was a member of the U.S. Under-20 team that won the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan last September.
Stengel is one of 10 members of the World Cup-winning Under-20 team that received a call-up to this month's U-23 camp. In addition to their week of training, the U-23s will play two scrimmages against the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team.
The first three-time All-American in program history, Stengel is already Wake Forest's all-time leading scorer heading into her senior season. She has totaled 44 goals and 105 points, and also holds the school single-season scoring records with 19 goals and 46 points in 2011.
