NEW LONDON, N.C. - On a rainy day at the Old North State Club, the Wake Forest men's golf team posted a final round 300 and finished the ACC Championship in eighth place at 8-over par.

The Demon Deacons were led individually by senior Evan Beck who finished in a tie for 15th at 2-under par. He opened the tournament with rounds of 69 and 70 and would card a final round 75 in the tough conditions. This was Beck's fifth tournament this season in which he has finished under-par and it's his ninth top-20 of the year.

Freshman Davis Womble had a very solid showing in his first ACC Championship. The High Point, N.C., native finished at even-par after rounds of 69-71-76 and tied for 21st. The even-par finish matches his lowest 54-hole total of the season.

Junior Thomas Birdsey finished the tournament just a shot behind Womble at 1-over par and tied for 24th. He made nine birdies for the tournament and his 54-hole total of 217 is his lowest since the opening tournament of the spring.

Senior Charlie Harrison capped his ACC Championship run with a round of 76. He finished the tournament at 9-over par and tied for 44th. Junior John Varol finished the week in 52nd place after rounds of 75-79-77.

Duke started the day four shots behind Florida State and after a final round 284, the Blue Devils wound-up with a three-shot victory over both Florida State and Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech finished in fourth place, 12-shots back, but Yellow Jacket Andres Albertson claimed medalist honors at 15-under par. He finished five shots better than Chase Seiffert of Florida State and Mikey Moyers of Virginia Tech.

The Demon Deacons will next be in action at one of six NCAA Regional sites on May 16-18. The regional announcement is set for Monday, May 6, at 9 p.m. on NCAASports.com.
