Wake Forest Qualifies 12 for NCAA East Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest track and field qualified 12 student-athletes for the NCAA East Regional First Rounds, as announced by the NCAA and USTFCCA on Thursday.
The top 48 declared athletes in each region per event qualified for the NCAA First Round Meets, which will take place May 23-25 in Greensboro, N.C. The top 12 athletes from each region then advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.
Ben Lincoln qualified for his fourth-straight appearance in the NCAA East Regional meet after registering a throw of 75.36m at the Wake Forest Open and setting the school record in the process. He is also looking for his third-straight trip to the NCAA Championships where he finished 18th overall.
Thomas Bojanowski qualified for the 800m after posting a time of 1:49.81 at the Auburn Tiger Classic. It will be the first appearance for Bojanowski in the East Regional.
Kyle Graves and Alexander Rose qualified for the 1500m for the Demon Deacons. Rose competed in the 1500m at the East Regionals last year and will also compete in the 5000m this year at the regional meet.
Sean Lunkenheimer is eligible for the 400m hurdles after posting a time of 52.39 seconds at the Wolfpack Last Chance meet. It will be his second time racing at the NCAA First Round after competing in the same event in 2011.
Steve Michaelsen qualified for the discus as a freshman. He registered a throw of 51.84m at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting back in March.
Joining Lincoln in the javelin is Patrick Donelan who makes the meet for the first time after posting a throw of 65.32m at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Five Wake Forest women's track and field athletes qualified for the NCAA East Regional this season.
Freshman Samantha Jones made the 5000m race after posting a time of 16:33.21 this season while Nicole Irving qualified for the 10000m race. Nyki Caldwell who registered a height of 1.77m in the high jump this season made the NCAA East Regional as well. It will be her first appearance at the meet.
Katie Adair qualified after setting the school record once again in the pole vault last weekend. Her mark of 4.02m broke her previous record she set earlier this season.
Erin Brooks made the triple jump prelims in Greensboro after a solid 2013 season. Her season best was 12.80m at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Competition begins Thursday May 23 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
