Jerry Haas Set For PGA Professionals National Championship

SUNRIVER, Ore. - Wake Forest men's golf coach Jerry Haas has a big opportunity this week at the 46th PGA Professionals National Championship in Sunriver, Ore. The top-20 players at the end of the event will earn a spot in the PGA Championship this August.
The tournament runs June 23-26 and will be contested on Sunriver's Crosswater Club and Meadows Golf Courses the first two days with the final two rounds being played on the Crosswater course. A total of 312 players from all over the country have descended on the central Oregon resort vying for a spot in this year's PGA Championship.
Haas qualified for the event by finishing tied for 10th at the Carolina's PGA Professional Championship last fall. Haas has fared well in Carolinas PGA events in recent years. He finished runner-up at the 2011 North Carolina Open, won the 2012 South Carolina Open and finished third at this year's Carolina's Open at Bryan Park.
The last time Haas qualified for the PGA Championship was in 2006 when he finished tied for 12th at the PGA Professionals National Championship at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y. A third round 68 that year propelled Haas into position and he then played his final seven holes of the final round at 3-under par to secure a spot.
All four rounds of this year's championship will be aired on The Golf Channel. Haas begins the tournament on Crosswater Course on Sunday at 4:40 p.m. ET.
On Monday evening, Haas will be featured on The Golf Channel's The Golf Fix with instructor Michael Breed. Breed will be catching-up with players on the range at the PGA Professionals Championship. The show airs at 7 p.m. ET.
