Parkhurst Named to Gold Cup Roster

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Michael Parkhurst is one of 23 players who has been selected to represent the United States in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will be hosted by the U.S. from July 7-28 at various venues across the country.
The former Demon Deacon standout is also one of just 11 players on the Gold Cup roster who also was on the most recent roster that saw the U.S. win four straight matches and earn nine points in World Cup Qualifying.
The team will play a tune-up match against Guatemala on July 5 before beginning the Gold Cup competition.
As part of Group C, the United States will be with Belize, Cuba and Costa Rica. The Americans will begin the tournament against Belize on July 9 at JELD-WEN Field in Portland, Ore. The second match will be at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah on July 13 against Cuba, while the final match of group play will be against Costa Rica on July 16 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.
The final is schedule for July 28 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The winner of the 2013 Gold Cup will compete in a playoff with the winner of the 2015 event for the right to represent CONCACAF at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. The U.S. has reached the final of the Gold Cup in five of the last six tournaments, winning three titles.
