Parkhurst Wins CONCACAF Gold Cup with USMNT

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Michael Parkhurst started and played every minute, as the U.S. Men's National Team defeated Panama 1-0 in the championship of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The win extends the American's record winning streak to 11 games.
Team USA got its only goal of the match in the 69th minute from Brek Shea, who had been on the field for just 42 seconds. The 1-0 victory marked the fifth CONCACAF Gold Cup Championship for the Americans in the history of the tournament (1991, 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2013).
For the tournament USA outscored its opponents 20-3, while Landon Donovan was named MVP of the Gold Cup.
Parkhurst has tasted victory in each of the 11 wins during the streak and has been called in for each of the last 12 matches for the national team. He saw extensive time during the Gold Cup, starting and playing every minute of five of the six games, including four straight. In addition, Parkhurst dished out an assist in the win over Belize on July 9.
Of the 16 U.S. Men's National Team matches in 2013, Parkhurst has been called in for 13 of the matches. The Americans are 12-2-2 overall during the year, while they are 11-2-0 when Parkhurst has been on the roster.
The U.S. Men's National Team will return to action next in a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on August 14 at Asim Ferhatofic Hase Stadium in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. The match will kick off at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.
