WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest is ranked No. 17 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Preseason Ranking, as announced by the NSCAA on Tuesday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons begin the 2013 season five spots up from the end of the 2012 season after being ranked No. 22 in last year's final poll. Wake Forest will look to improve upon last year's 11-4-5 season, which ended in the Second Round of the NCAA Championship.
Wake Forest is accompanied in the Top 25 poll by several of its 2013 opponents. In total, the Demon Deacons have nine opponents on the schedule that are ranked in the preseason. Of those nine, four (No. 2 Maryland, No. 4 North Carolina, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 8 Akron) are ranked in the Top 10.
The other five teams that Wake Forest will face that are in the Top 25 include No. 13 Coastal Carolina, No. 20 Syracuse, No. 21 Charlotte, No. 24 VCU and No. 25 Virginia. Elon, who is also a 2013 opponent, is receiving votes.
The Demon Deacons are set to face Coastal Carolina in the 2013 regular season opener on August 30 at Spry Stadium at 8 p.m. The Chanticleers ended the Deacs' season last year in the NCAA Tournament.
