WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team will host Furman on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in the team's final exhibition match of the preseason.
The matchup with the Paladins will serve as the second of two preseason exhibitions for the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest went to Campbell last Saturday and defeated the Camels 2-1.
After the two teams remained scoreless into the intermission, the Deacs took the lead less than five minutes into the second half when Teddy Mullin scored on an assist by Luca Gimenez.
Campbell would tie the game at the 66:07 mark, but Wake Forest answered just 31 seconds later on a goal by Gimenez that was assisted by Rafael Fagundo.
Goalkeepers Andrew Harris and Alec Ferrell each played a half against Campbell, as Harris recorded two saves and Ferrell had one save.
The Demon Deacons traveled to Furman last season for an exhibition, defeating the Paladins 2-0. Wake Forest scored twice in the first 13 minutes of the game and was able to hold on for the win. Michael Gamble put the Deacs on top just 2:20 into the game on an unassisted goal, while Sam Fink headed one home at 12:59 on a cross by Ben Newnam.
Wake Forest will get the regular season started on August 30 at home against Coastal Carolina at 8 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
