WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball 2013-14 schedule was announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Wednesday afternoon. The Demon Deacons will open the season on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Marquette.
Wake Forest will play 14 games at home this season beginning with a Nov. 13 tilt against visiting Campbell. The Deacs will also host Davidson, Radford, Belmont, UNC Wilmington and South Alabama in non-conference action.
A pair of tournaments highlight the holiday season for the Deacs. They will play in the John Ascuaga's Nugget Classic over Thanksgiving hosted by Nevada. Idaho and 2013 Final Four participant California will round out the field in Reno. Wake then heads to Miami for the FIU Sun & Fun Classic on Dec. 28-29. In addition to FIU, the Deacs will be joined by Fairleigh Dickenson and Florida A&M.
Wake Forest has three non-conference road games in November. After the season-opener at Marquette, the Deacs will also make trips to Delaware and Arizona.
As previously announced, the format for the 16-game ACC schedule consists of each team hosting six opponents at home, playing six opponents on the road and playing two opponents home and away.
The Deacons will play a home and home series with both NC State and Miami. Wake hosts Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Notre Dame while traveling to Georgia Tech, Clemson, Duke, Maryland, Pittsburgh and Boston College.
This season marks the entrance of Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the conference. The Demon Deacons will host Syracuse in the first-ever game between the two schools.
Wake Forest has faced Notre Dame and Pittsburgh one time previously. In 1998, the Deacons fell 53-46 to Pittsburgh at the Oakland Tribune Classic in Oakland, Calif. Wake also fell to Notre Dame in its only meeting 92-69 at the WBCA Classic in South Bend.
The ACC Tournament will once again be played at the Greensboro Coliseum on March 5-9. With the addition of two more teams, the Championship will begin with three first-round games on Wednesday, followed by the second round, quarterfinals, semifinals and title contest in successive days.
