The Wake Forest women's soccer team opened its preseason training for the 2013 season Wednesday, undergoing fitness testing before partaking in two training sessions on the practice fields at Spry Stadium.
The Deacons opened the morning session with their annual four-on-four tournament, which was won by the team of Katie Stengel, Lane Czura, Jessica Mandarich and Sarah Teegarden.
"It's been good. The kids ran the `beep test' this morning and did some strength tests, and it's been going pretty well," said head coach Tony da Luz. "The session as the soccer goes was really good, so I think it was a good start."
The Demon Deacons return eight starters from last season's squad, including senior All-Americans Aubrey Bledsoe and Katie Stengel who will serve as co-captains this year.
After an exhibition against Campbell on Aug. 16 at BB&T Soccer Park in Advance, N.C., Wake Forest will open the 2013 season at home against Kentucky on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
