WINTSON-SALEM, N.C. - When most people think of golf, they think of Arnold Palmer. When most people think of Wake Forest, they also think of Arnold Palmer. So it only seems fitting that a statue of the golfing legend will be featured prominently on Wake Forest's campus.

Athletic director Ron Wellman announced that Wake Forest plans to honor Mr. Palmer with a statue on campus at the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex.

"Arnold Palmer is recognized as the golfer who brought the professional game to its height of popularity during the 1950's and 1960's," Wellman said. "He is recognized as the "King" of professional golf. "He has been deeply involved and supportive of our athletic and golf programs. "He is not only one of the most recognizable Wake Forest alums; he also continues to be one of the most recognizable professional athletes in the world. "He has been and continues to be a fantastic ambassador for our university. "We will eventually honor all of our accomplished golfers at the Arnold Palmer Golf Complex in some manner but we wanted to start with Arnold Palmer as the first honoree."

The statue will be a focal point at the renovated Arnold Palmer Golf Complex, which was dedicated to Mr. Palmer in 2011. More details on the statue unveiling will be announced at a later date.
